Napa Sanitation District Prepares Award-Winning Budget

January  08, 2013

For the third year in a row, the Napa Sanitation District has produced an award-winning budget. The District was once again recognized for producing a document that presents the numbers clearly while including a narrative that explains the budget process, outlines District operations, and sets goals for the fiscal year. For this effort, the District has been awarded a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

The GFOA award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. In order to be eligible for the budget award, the District had to be proficient in four categories with 14 mandatory criteria. In addition, this year the District received a special recognition for its Capital Improvement Budget. This budget was rated “Outstanding”, the highest category, for its description of expenditures for capital improvements and the impact of these expenditures on the operating budget.

The Napa Sanitation District has an operating budget of $13.2 million for fiscal year 2012/13, which runs from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013. The budget is available on the District’s website at Us/Financial Information. The Board of Directors received the budget award at their regular meeting on February 6, 2013.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving over 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
